Last week I ventured out to The Ponds; one of Summerville’s up and coming new developments. Located off the beaten path, at the intersection of Dorchester Road and Hwy 17A, The Ponds is quite a bit further out than I had anticipated, however once you arrive it is magnificent.
One of the largest differences I noticed between The Ponds and other new developments going up is the emphasis on the landscaping and the nature that is already present. Greenwood Developers are preserving 1100 acres of natural landscape including magnificent oaks, ponds, streams, and green areas. In addition, they are putting a conservancy in place with a full time director to create programs to help residents become intimate with the land and learn more about the Lowcountry.
Two hundred and thirteen single family & townhome homesites are planned, and five reputable builders have been selected to build in The Ponds based upon their reputation and excellent work. Each has begun building homes for sale this fall.
Alison Dailey Homes, Inc. David Weekley Homes The J.D. Smith Company John Wieland Homes Palmetto Classic Homes, Inc.
The developers of The Ponds are the same creators who developed Hilton Head’s Palmetto Dunes & Shelter Cove, Charleston’s Beresford Hall, Summerville’s Coosaw Creek Country Club and many others. Experience says they know what they are doing and do it extremely well. A quick look at the amenities
