Spoleto Festival USA has firmly established itself as one of the world’s major arts festivals, presenting 100 world premieres and 93 American premieres since its inception in 1977. Past premieres and commissions include the highly acclaimed Peter and Wendy by Lee Breuer, Creve Coeur by Tennessee Williams, The American Clock by Arthur Miller, The Mechanical Organ by the Nikolais Dance Theatre, Miracolo d’Amore by Martha Clarke, Empty Places by Laurie Anderson, Hydrogen Jukebox by Philip Glass and Allen Ginsberg, Praise House by Urban Bush Women, Three Tales by Steve Reich and Beryl Korot, and the world premiere of a Spoleto commissioned work Tenebrae by Osvaldo Golijov.
Sculpture in the South
Location: Azalea Park, Summerville, SC

The 12th Annual Sculpture in the South Show & Sale is an upscale art event that welcomes 35 world-class sculptors to display their artwork. Sculpture pieces range from miniature to gift-size to life-size pieces. Sculptors remain on-site throughout the weekend demonstrating the processes and techniques used to create these pieces of art. Proceeds benefit the public sculpture acquisition for Summerville. Cost $5 Daily, $7/Weekend Pass.
From Seeds to Shillings
Location: Patriots Point, Charleston, SC
Date: June 12, 2010, 11-4pm
Cost: $5 adult/$3 child (6-15 yrs)
Patriots Point is celebrating Navy Week withthe Blue Angels air show on Saturday and Sunday. This weekend, get there early to grab your spot for the 2 p.m. Blue Angels air show. There is no charge for Navy Week activities. Parking costs $3.
Do the Charleston
Location: Kings Street, Charleston
Date: Sunday, May 16,2010
Time: 12-5 pm
Come out to King Street on Sunday, but leave the car at home. The first Do the Charleston closes King Street to cars between noon and five from Calhoun Street to Queen Street. Pedestrians and bicyclists are invited to take to the streets to enjoy neighborly sharing as shops host sidewalk sales and restaurants spill onto the streets to offer outdoor dining. There will also be kids activities and street vendors.
Picnic in thePark
Location: Smythe Park, Daniel Island, SC
Date: 5-1pm Saturday, May 15,2010
Bring the basket to Smythe Park on Saturday for Daniel Island’s Concert in the Park with Jeremy Davis and the Equinox Jazz Orchestra. Spread out lakefront on the grass and listen to the music of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr. and more. The Daniel Island Community Foundation will give the top picnic $500 for the picnicker’s charity of choice. The judging starts at 6, and the concert is 7 to 10 p.m. There will be food vendors with snacks, Italian ice and drinks. There is no charge to attend.
