The holiday season is right around the corner and the new fun family events for October, December, Halloween and Christmas in Summerville, SC  have arrived. Even if the weather is warm, doing these fun family events will make it feel more like fall around Summerville!

2015 Scarecrows on the Square

When: October 17-Nov 1

Where: Hutchinson Square in Downtown Summerville, SC

About: Every year the Summerville Junior Service League hosts this wonderful event for the town of Summerville. Local businesses, schools and groups decorate scarecrows and post them around our very own Hutchinson Square.  You can walk around and enjoy them for the last two weeks in October.  This is a lot of fun for kids and adults alike.

Harvest Moon Festival

When: October 24, 2015

Where: Hutchinson Square in Downtown Summerville, 6pm ends at 9pm

About: On October 25th, there will be a Ghost Walk and Hayrides at the Harvest Moon Festival!  Feel free to wear your favorite costume and come out and celebrate with the town. The Summerville Junior Service League works with Summerville DREAM to bring this great event to the town.

Here’s the breakdown:

  •  Ghostwalk tour and access to all carnival games. $4 in advance, or $6 on day of the event
  • Kids under 3 are FREE

  • Harvest Moon Hayride $3 (provided by SummervilleDREAM) Tickets only sold at event (no presales).

Gingerbread Creation Contest:

Let your creative side go and make a fun creation for display around Summerville!  Join us in downtown Summerville for Summerville DREAM’s Gingerbread Creation Contest. Sugary creations will be on display throughout Historic Downtown Summerville from November 5th through December 1, 2015.  Prizes will be given for Culinary Professional, Adult, Child, and Group (family, organization, business, club, etc.) categories. A Christmas Carol Walking Tour with Tim Lowry

When: December 18, 2014

Where: Historic Downtown Summerville

About: Local storyteller, Tim Lowry, recounts the time-honored Christmas tradition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, as he guides you on a walking tour of Historic Downtown Summerville. To purchase tickets for this year’s event on December 18th at 5:30 pm or 7:00 pm, call 843.821.7260. Tickets are $10.00 per person; limited tickets will be available closer to the event.

A Christmas Carol Walking Tour with Tim Lowry

When: December 17, 2015

Where: Historic Downtown Summerville

About: Sure you may have heard the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the three ghosts who visited him one Christmas night. However, if you have never heard the story as told by storyteller Tim Lowry, you have never really heard the story! Join us on December 17th, 2015 at either 5:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. for a memorable evening of ghosts and Christmas cheer! Tickets for this event will be available soon!

Christmas Tree Lighting

When: Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Where: Hutchinson Square, Downtown Summerville

About: The annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Hutchinson Square will be on Tuesday, December 1st at 6:30 pm. Join the Mayor of the Town of Summerville as he lights up Town Square in Historic Downtown Summerville. Prior to the lighting, musical entertainment by the Summerville High School band and choir will begin at 6:00 pm. This event is hosted by the Flowertown Garden Club.

Summerville Christmas Parade

When: December 13, 2015 2pm

Where: Downtown Summerville


Sponsored by Summerville DREAM, the Annual Christmas Parade is a free, public event that brings the community together to spread Christmas cheer. Traditionally, the parade is one of the largest in the state, and has featured nearly 3,000 participants with an overwhleming spectatorship of 25,000. The Parade sports an annual theme, in which the paricipants’ floats are judged, based on originality, creativity, and overall effort. Community members are encouraged to promote their organization, school or business to help celebrate the holiday. Spread Christmas cheer by dressing in holiday costume, handing out candy, etc. — only participants in the holiday spirit will be allowed to take part in the procession.

A Storybook Christmas is the theme for the 2015 parade.  A favorite Christmas tale, sweet memories from holidays past, or dreams for the future….A Storybook Christmas has many different meanings.
