Charleston Basket Brigade

Through the Charleston Basket Brigade, it only takes $30 to feed a family of 6-8 and there is more need than ever.  Since 2008, the Charleston Basket Brigade has been collecting funds and buying the food to put together Thanksgiving baskets for families in need around the Charleston area.

CharlestonBasket BrigadeCarolina One is very involved in helping this outreach to our community and it is exciting to see so many families blessed and encouraged on one of the best holidays of the year.  The Charleston Basket Brigade works with an organization called Communities in Schools to make this project happen every year. CIS provides a list of families in need every year to the Charleston Basket Brigade.  They then take that list and let the families know they will be receiving a meal on the day of the brigade.

One of the things I love about this organization is that every single penny that is raised goes towards purchasing food.   $30 feeds a family of six which includes a 10-12 lb. turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and butter.  The meals are assembled and anonymously hand delivered by  volunteers on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  Inside each basket is an anonymous letter that reads, “This comes to you from someone who cares about you.   All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.”

If you would like to do something this Thanksgiving to help families right in our community, you can go to the Charleston Basket Brigade’s website and donate to feed a family or volunteer to help deliver/assemble baskets. Thank you for your help!
