Gingerbread Creation Contest:

The Gingerbread Creation Contest has become a favorite for those participating and those wandering around and looking at them! Let your creative side go and make a fun creation for display around Summerville! The Gingerbread* Creation Competition has an asterisk; gingerbread is not required! Nor is there a requirement that the structure be a house or even a building.  Join us in downtown Summerville for Summerville DREAM’s Gingerbread Creation Contest. Sugary creations will be on display throughout Historic Downtown Summerville in November & December.  Prizes will be given for Culinary Professional, Adult, Child, and Group (family, organization, business, club, etc.) categories.  Judging will be done during the first two weeks of December. Ribbons will be placed on winning entries prior to December’s Third Thursday event on December 21, 2017

About: This is down the street from my home, this is an event we did every year with the children. The people of Bethany United Methodist Church of Summerville, SC, put on an amazing Living Christmas Story that you can drive through. It is like you stepped back in time to the town of Bethlehem. A Christmas Carol Walking Tour with Tim Lowry

When: December 21, 2015   5:30pm or 7pm

Where: Historic Downtown Summerville

About: Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” is one of the staples of the Christmas season and now you can hear the Summerville local storyteller, Tim Lowry retell it!  Walk around Historic Downtown Summerville with Lowry and have a great evening of Ebeneezer Scrooge and Christmas Cheer.  Learn More about the Christmas Carol Walking Tour.

Holiday Decoration Celebration at the Joseph Manigault House

When: December 2, 2017 ,3-5pm

Where: Joseph Manigault House, Downtown Charleston

About: If you are a Charleston Museum member, you can explore the Joseph Manigault House for free and view these decorations at your own pace. Enjoy hot chocolate and apple cider on the porch as Christmas music provided by The Charleston Caroling Company sounds within the walls.

The Garden Club of Charleston does an amazing job decorating the home with greenery, feathers, ribbons and more. The decorations will be up Dec. 2-29th if you are not a museum member and just want to go enjoy.

Christmas Tree Lighting

When: Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017,  6:15 PM

Where: Hutchinson Square, Downtown Summerville

About: The annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Hutchinson Square will be on Tuesday, December 5th at 6:15 pm. Join the Mayor of the Town of Summerville as he lights up Town Square in Historic Downtown Summerville. Musical groups will be performing and there will be food trucks and entertainment on Little Main after the lights are turned on. Many of our shops and restaurants will be open later so you can stay downtown, linger a little longer, grab a drink and a bite to eat and enjoy the evening! This event is hosted by the Flowertown Garden Club and Summerville DREAM

Christmas Parade of Boats 

When: Dec 9 ,2017 5- 8pm

Where: Downtown Charleston

About: If you are already downtown on December 9th, make your way over to the harbor to see the fantastic display of decorated boats floating through the water. It is a spectacular show that will make you feel like a little kid looking at Christmas lights!  Learn More about the Parade of Boats.

Summerville Christmas Parade

When: December 10, 2017 2pm

Where: Downtown Summerville

About: Come have fun and celebrate the Christmas Season with this fun family event. The Summerville Christmas Parade has grown to one of the largest in the state and is a sight to behold! Each year the Summerville DREAM team picks a theme for the parade and participants are judged on originality, creativity and overall effort. This years theme is Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. Summerville Schools, businesses and organizations all are encouraged to participate and support the community. Come join the town! Register for the Summerville Christmas Parade.

When: November 10, 2017-January 1,2018, starts at 5:30pm.

Where: James Island County Park

About: I’ve written about my experiences and tips for the Festival of Lights in previous years, and I stand by them! If you have children in your life, or even if you don’t, try to get out and see this display! The light show is over three miles long (you drive in your car) and then you can park and walk through beautiful light displays, roast marshmallows, sip hot cocoa and ride the train!   More about the Festival of Lights.

The holiday season is upon us in Summerville, SC and I am excited!  The next two months are full of festivities and fun things to do in Summerville and the surrounding area.   Christmas time is one of the times that the small town feel of Summerville is especially found in the Christmas parade and Christmas Tree Lighting! Tuesday December 2, 6:30 pm

Summerville Town Hall and Hutchinson Square

Join the Mayor of the Town of Summerville as he lights up Town Square and the Town Christmas Tree in Historic Downtown Summerville. Musical entertainment provided by the Summerville High School Band and choral groups preceding the lighting will begin at 6pm.

Arts & Crafts Market in Summerville, SC 

Saturday, December 6 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Come and get some of your Christmas shopping done and support local Summerville businesses at this great Holiday Arts & Crafts Market!  Hutchinson Square & Short Central will be full of artisans, artists and crafters who are selling their wares for the holidays.

The Holiday Arts and Crafts market is be a big draw and adds another feature to the spirit of our lovely town and the Downtown Summerville area. Even if your shopping is done, come out to enjoy the holiday spirit and see your neighbors.

Summerville Christmas Parade

Sunday, December 14, 2:00 pm

Summerville’s Christmas Parade is a spectacular thing and has grown to one of the largest in the state!  This year’s theme is “Candy Canes & Christmas Carols.” Community members are encouraged to promote their organization, school or business to help celebrate the holiday. Spread Christmas cheer by dressing in holiday costume, handing out candy, etc. — only participants in the holiday spirit will be allowed to take part in the procession

Christmas Carol Walking Tour with Tim Lowry

December 18, 5:30 or 7pm

“Sure you may have heard the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts who visited him one Christmas night. However, if you have never heard the story as told by storyteller Tim Lowry, you have never really heard the story!

To purchase tickets for this year’s event on December 18th at 5:30 pm or 7:00 pm, call 843.821.7260. Tickets are $10.00 per person; limited tickets available.”

Lights on the Sweet Tea Trail

Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 5 pm

Travel through historic Summerville while enjoying the lights of the season. There will be 8+ houses dressed for the holiday and you get to judge which is your favorite. Upon arrival back to St. Paul’s Church your vote will entitle you to a special treat courtesy of Parish House Catering.

You can Buy Tickets for the Summerville Lights on the Sweet Tea Trail. Adults: $10, Children (12& under) $5, Lap Sitters 3& under are free.

Christmas at Northwoods

I am a partial to this because my daughter, Irene Rose, is performing in the performance!  She performed last year as well and it was a treat to see her and the others sing and dance their hearts out! She’s working on her tap dance moves right now. 🙂

December 4-7th Various Times

Christmas at Northwoods  is a locally sponsored two-act production including singing, dancing, and comedy. This variety show featuring local talent is sure to leave you and your family filled with the Christmas spirit. Tickets $5 for opening night, $7 for following nights.
