Last month we prepared as Hurricane Florence barreled toward the South Carolina coast and most of our area evacuated and life came to a standstill for around a week.  Many of us remember Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and the lasting impact it had on our town and lives. As a result, Summerville was quiet for many days during September. We are praying and working to support our neighbors further up the coast that did get the impact of the Hurricane this time around.

The break in September due to the Hurricane had a significant impact on real estate as the number of houses sold last month was down by 21 % compared to last year. We saw 238 homes for sale in Summerville sell after an average of only 40 days on the market. The number of days it takes for a home to sell in Summerville has gone down by 13% from this time last year in 2017.  The average sales price for a home in Summerville continues to climb upwards and averaged $265,782 last month, which is up nine percent compared to this time last year. According to our Summerville real estate market reports, we’ve dropped under 2.5 months supply of homes for sale in Summerville .
